Employment Opportunity: Assistant Professor of Online Journalism
The School of Journalism and Communication at the University of Oregon seeks a tenure-track assistant professor of online journalism for the 2009-2010 academic year.
The successful candidate will have significant professional experience with multimedia online newsgathering and production. An advanced degree and either teaching experience or demonstrated potential for university teaching are required. Preferred candidates will hold the Ph.D., or have a portfolio of exceptional professional work. Teaching responsibilities include the following: undergraduate and graduate courses in reporting and producing for multiple platforms; related courses, such as, new media theory and practice; and other areas of the curriculum fitting the candidate’s background and interests.
The School of Journalism & Communication
The School offers doctoral and master’s programs in communication and society as well as professional master’s programs in news/editorial, magazine, strategic communication and literary nonfiction. The undergraduate program serves more than 1,500 majors and pre-majors in six majors—advertising, communication studies, electronic media, magazine, news/editorial and public relations—and approximately 100 graduate students in master’s and doctoral programs. Accredited by ACEJMC, the School is nationally known for its commitment to teaching excellence. In 2006, the School opened the George S. Turnbull Center in Portland, where it offers undergraduate and graduate classes, workshops and seminars for students and for the professional community.
