Media in Ghana
Fourteen SOJC students are in Ghana participating in the school's Media in Ghana Program. Following orientation at the University of Ghana campus, they practice their skills in five-week full-time internships in Ghanaian media and communications outlets. This is the sixth year the SOJC has offered this program.
Following orientation, students are placed in five-week full-time internships with Ghanaian media, including seven newspapers,
two radio stations, one television station, three advertising agencies, and a non-governmental organization that carries out social
marketing campaigns on behalf of aid agencies. They also take weekend field trips to well-known historic and cultural sites in the country.
Since 2004, nearly 70 SOJC undergraduate and graduate students and three faculty members have participated in the program, led by Professor and Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Research Leslie Steeves. Prior to 2004 nine SOJC students participated in a joint Oregon/Kansas program that has since been discontinued.
