“I don't know how official any of these rankings are, but it did feel nice to know that people were noticing,” says SOJC Assistant Professor Harsha Gangadharbatla of his naming earlier this year as one of “100 professors you should follow and learn from on Twitter.” “Now, if only I can somehow tie this into my service part for tenure.”

The rankings were displayed at at http://associatedegree.org/2009/06/01/100-professors-you-should-follow-and-learn-from-on-twitter.

Gangadharbatla, whose Twitter username is gHarsha, joined the site “sometime in 2007” as a member of the faculty at Texas Tech University. He explains “I've always been an early adopter of technology. I had friends get on it so I decided to give it a try. At first I didn't really see any use to it but  everyone kept talking about it so much that I had to come back after a couple of months to give it another shot. There's definitely a learning curve.”

Gangadharbatla now has over 1,000 followers. Now that he's been named one of “100 professors you should follow and learn from on Twitter,” he says “there's a lot of pressure to tweet something profound and meaningful every single time. I usually send out links to interesting articles that I run into online. In some sense, I hope I am being helpful and saving people time by skimming through news related to marketing and advertising and letting people know what's interesting.”

Kelli Matthews, SOJC Adjunct Professor, who is currently ranked Eugene's m Gangadharbatla calls “the goddess of Twitter,” says: “Harsha is a great person to follow whether you're a student or a professional. He shares great tips and resources and he's very real. What you see online is what you get offline - and that's the way Twitter should be used. It's about making personal connections and Harsha does that naturally.”

Over a dozen SOJC faculty members use Twitter, as do Dean Tim Gleason, Career Services and Student Services.
