SOJC Internship Information
An internship is one of the most important activities you can do while you are in school. You need to start searching for a summer internship early in fall term. Some deadlines are in November or December. You should meet with the Career Services Coordinator during your sophomore year to start preparing for your internship Search.

Each week the Career Services office sends out the SOJC Internship News by email with internship opportunities. All students should be subscribed to this listserv. You will only receive 3-4 emails a week from this listserv.

Receiving Credit for Internships
If you would like to receive credit for your internship, you need to meet the following criteria:
1. The School of Journalism and Communication (SOJC) will award J404 internship credit only to fully admitted, upper-division SOJC majors and graduate students. Pre-majors are not eligible to earn internship credit through the SOJC.
2. You will be eligible to register for internship credit only
after passing certain basic courses within your sequence (or their equivalents). Faculty
might waive the requirements, if you have participated in other activities
that prepare you for an internship.
Details:
Advertising: required courses are those that relate most closely to the work that the intern will do. Courses might include: J340 Principles of Advertising; J341 Ad Copy Writing; J442/542 Ad Layout; J443/543 Ad Media Plan; J444/544 Ad Acct Management or J445/545 Ad Research
Communication Studies: Communication Studies students completing a professional internship should have completed the same course(s) required of students in the appropriate sequence
Electronic Media: J330 Introduction to Electronic Media Production and one other electronic news or video production course
Magazine: J371 Magazine Article Writing I; and J473 Magazine Feature Editing or J474 The Magazine Editor
News-editorial (reporting internships): J361 Reporting I
News-editorial (editing internships): J364 Newspaper Editing
Public Relations: J350 Principles of Public Relations and J440 Public Relations Writing
If you meet these to requirements, then you will need to fill out the Internship Tracking Form (link to form is below) with your Faculty Adviser and your internship supervisor. You will then turn this form in to Student Services (101 Allen Hall).
Internship Evaluation Forms
Once your internship is over, the following forms need to be filled out. (both forms are available below in pdf form)
Student Evaluation Form – Filled out by the student evaluating the internship site.
Employer Evaluation Form – Filled out by the employer evaluating the intern
Zero Credit Internships
If you will be completing an internship but not receiving credit (zero credit), fill out the Zero Credit Internship Form. The data will only be used for informational purposes.
