More than 3,000 family members and friends gathered to salute the 350 graduates who participated in the SOJC Commencement Saturday, June 14 at McArthur Court. Dan Wieden '67, on campus to receive the UO's Distinguished Alumnus Award, delivered a brief address. The ceremony is available on the special UO channel on YouTube. New photographs added June 30.

2008 Payne Awards for Ethics in Journalism, Ruhl Lecture, THIS Thursday, May 8.
The Payne Awards for Ethics in Journalism, followed by a panel discussion among the winners, will be presented at 10:00 a.m. Jan Schaffer, Executive Director of J-Lab, will present "Participatory Media: Challenges to the Conventions of Journalism" as the SOJC's Ruhl Lecturer at 4:00 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public.
Internationally known author Peggy Orenstein to present SOJC's Johnston Lecture
Peggy Orenstein, an award-winning author on issues affecting girls and women, will present “Writing about the politics of everyday life,” at the School of Journalism and Communication’s annual Johnston lecture on Thursday, April 24 at 4:00 p.m.
Announcing the 2008 Payne Awards for Ethics in Journalism
The Phoenix New-Times and The (Spokane) Spokesman - Review will both receive Payne Awards for Ethics in Journalism in the News Organization Category, while an editor of a budding community college newspaper in Western Massachusetts who challenged her college president will receive the award in the Collegiate Media category.

Blank, who is attending the Ad Age Digital Media Conference this week as the SOJC's first Bedbury Scholar, will blog daily about his experiences there.
NPR President Kevin Klose will be Keynote Speaker at Hulteng Conversations in Ethics event
The event, a one-day conference on the ethical issues facing journalists, is scheduled for Friday, April 4 beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the George S. Turnbull Portland Center's new home. (read more)

Deadline February 25. The Payne Awards for Ethics in Journalism honor journalists who encourage public trust in the media by courageously practicing the highest standards of the profession in the face of political or economic pressures. The Payne Awards seek entries from news organizations, individual journalists and student journalists in broadcasting, print or new media.
