Presenting news to a public whose taste is constantly changing isn’t easy. Add to this the economic factors that all news outlets must face and the result is constant pressure: Pressure to appeal to a shifting audience base. Pressure from advertisers. Pressure from ownership. The result is an evolving hybrid of what we used to call “hard news.” What exactly constitutes news today? How has it changed to meet the demands of the market? What will it look like in the future? Can we, as journalists, control this change so that the future of news is secure and meaningful?

for  Conversations in Ethics:  "Truth Under Pressure,"
a day-long exploration of the ethical issues facing journalists today.

The John L. Hulteng Conversations in Ethics is an annual event made possible by the family of the late John Hulteng, former SOJC dean and professor, who set standards of journalism ethics that remain intact today.  The event brings together students, professionals, and the public for an informed discussion of the ethical issues of the day as they pertain to the media and their constituencies.
