Computer Purchase Recommendations
A list of recommended computer hardware and software purchases for prospective and current students.
Often times we are asked what sort of computer a student in the Journalism & Communication program should buy. This document endeavors to answer that question.
Current hardware recommendation:
Apple 15 Inch MacBook Pro with the following configuration:
- 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
- 1440 x 900 resolution
- 2GB memory
- 200GB hard drive
- Double-layer SuperDrive
- NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 256MB

Software recommendation:
Microsoft Office 2008 for the Macintosh
(available from The Duck Shop as well)
Students will likely need other software packages, such as Adobe Creative Suite or FinalCut Suite, later in their studies but we recommend students delay the purchase of software until it is needed for coursework. The School of Journalism & Communications computer labs have this software and are available to students enrolled in courses that require the use of specific software packages.
